How do I get over the "holiday blues," and what can I do on my own to help?
Namaste Everyone,
Today I will be answering the question: How do I get over the "holiday blues," and what can I do on my own to help?
To help you overcome the strong emotions felt around the holiday season I want to start by connecting your inner self (who you are) with your outer self (who you show) so you can figure out what is causing the "holiday blues" for you. I will be using references from my book, Embracing Your Divine Self: The Emapths Guide to Balance, Happiness, and Self-Awareness, and focusing on self-awareness.
You do not need to have read the book or be an Empath to apply this to your situation.
“Self-awareness is exactly what it sounds like: being aware of yourself, of who you are at your core and as a whole.”
When your inner and outer self don’t match it’s usually because of an unknown disconnect. Either you don’t see things about yourself that need to be changed or you don’t appreciate yourself for the things about you that are amazing. In order for you mend the disconnect you have to figure out which it is, sometimes it can be a combination of both.
“You can start getting to know yourself by asking yourself questions about you and listening to the answers. Those questions could be: What do I like to eat? How do I feel when I work extra hours? Why do I become angry when I am told what to do instead of being asked? What’s my favorite way to self-express? How do I act in certain situations? How do I know when an ailment is not mine? These questions are going to help you figure out why you do what you do and why you feel and think the way you do. They will also help to answer these questions: Who am I? Who am I not?”
This Q & A exercise will help point you in the direction that you need to go. It’ll help bring light to your amazingness and to those parts of you that might need some transformation.
It will also help you figure out where your inconsistencies are and what inbalances they create in your life.
If you are an animal lover and in your heart of hearts want to be a vegetarian, but you have a difficult time not eating meat this will create a huge disconnect. The same goes if you are a person who loves to care for others but you are not caring for yourself.
I want to break down the following paragraph to help you truly connect with it and apply it to your life this holiday season.
“Self-awareness teaches you what your needs are, when they are not being met, and how to meet them. It teaches you how to ask for what you need from others with self-love and gratitude. It also helps you transform inbalances and let go of any beliefs and ways of living that no longer fit who you are or who you want to be. Self-awareness helps you create balance so you don’t have to wait until you are suffering to realize you are giving more to someone else. Most importantly, self-awareness leads you to self-acceptance.”
“Self-awareness teaches you what your needs are, when they are not being met, and how to meet them.”
Have you found yourself feeling sad or depressed or simply not motivated lately? How about feeling lonely or neglected? Around the Holiday season many people, especially Empaths, find themselves out of sync. Most of the time not knowing why. Before you know it you have a cold or are on your couch or bed feeling alone and crying instead of feeling jolly as everyone says you are supposed to, which creates even more sadness and heaviness.
Unless you try to understand what is going on with you will not figure it out. Use Self-awareness this week to connect with those feelings. There is usually a need that is not being met. Your need can be related to Family, Friends, Money, Happiness, Recognition, Forgiveness, and others alike. It’s something that is distracting your focus in the present moment and blocking your happiness as well.
Once you understand what that need is, it’s important to also understand how to get it met and by whom.
For example, if you discover you are sad because you haven’t talked to a family member for months, but feel too proud to reach out, this is where self-awareness helps you understand that You are the one suffering. Yes, they probably are too, but you know you are for sure and you can only do something about yourself.
“It teaches you how to ask for what you need from others with self-love and gratitude.”
Understanding that when your needs are not met you are the one that is hurt and negatively affected should be enough to give you the motivation you need to release your ego and approach this specific situation from a place of self-love. Self-love because you are sad and in need to reconnect to your family member and you love yourself enough to stop hurting yourself. Gratitude because you are grateful you will no longer be suffering because once this need is taken care of you will no longer have this imbalance.
“It also helps you transform inbalances and let go of any beliefs and ways of living that no longer fit who you are or who you want to be.”
It is your choice to decided if you are a person who would rather be proud and upset or who is willing to get their own needs met, even if it means stepping over your ego. Sometimes it takes a lot of courage to let go of something or someway that has been with you for a long time, but happiness and peace always come to those who are willing to change for the best.
“Self-awareness helps you create balance so you don’t have to wait until you are suffering to realize you are giving more to someone else.”
Because now you know with some self-awareness you can get your needs met and bring more happiness into your life, chances are next time you will take matters into your own hands at the first sign of inbalance and not wait until you are sad or sick to understand something deeper is going on.
“Most importantly, self-awareness leads you to self-acceptance.”
Self-Acceptance is tough. People are constantly comparing themselves and figuring out where they stand with Family, Friends, Career, etc. As you continue to work on self-awareness you will realize your world really revolves around you. How you see yourself is how others see. If you aren't’ aware of your needs and how to meet them, how can you expect others to be?
As you work on getting to know yourself you will also be working on falling in love with yourself and accepting yourself as the Divine individual that makes you perfectly you. You will also get to a point where you become your inspiration and motivation.
I encourage you to take some time today to check in with yourself and become aware of how you are feeling and why. Reinforce the positive feelings and emotions and be willing to change in order to transform any negative feelings and emotions into positive ones so you can truly enjoy this holiday season.
Sending you Love, Light, and Happiness,
Rosa
